Legal Battle Unfolds for NFL Star Stefon Diggs Amid Assault Charges and Attorney Switch

As the legal battle for NFL star Stefon Diggs unfolds, he maintains his innocence in the face of assault-related charges stemming from an alleged incident with his personal chef. The New England Patriots wide receiver, age 32, appeared in court on a crisp Friday morning in February and pleaded not guilty. According to the Associated Press, a pretrial hearing is now set for April 1.

In a surprising twist, Diggs made a last-minute switch of legal representation. Initially set to be defended by Michael DiStefano, he instead chose Boston attorney Sara Silva of Silva Kettlewell and Pignatelli LLP. Following the hearing, attorney Mitchell Schuster firmly denied the allegations against his client to reporters, stating confidently that Diggs will be exonerated once all the evidence is reviewed.

The charges stem from a December incident at Diggs’ residence where his chef, who had been working for him since July, alleged that he assaulted her after she raised concerns about unpaid compensation. She claimed that Diggs slapped her and attempted to choke her, causing her to struggle to breathe. The chef quit shortly after the incident and reported it weeks later.

Diggs had previously denied the allegations through his former attorney David Meier, emphasizing that they were unsubstantiated and uninvestigated. In addition to his legal troubles, he was also sued for defamation by a former employee last week, adding further complexity to his current situation.

These legal issues come at a time of rumored personal tension for Diggs, with reports swirling about a potential breakup with his girlfriend Cardi B. Meanwhile, the rapper seems to be focusing on her own success, recently purchasing a lavish watch worth nearly $500,000.

As the challenges continue to mount for Diggs, the coming days will undoubtedly hold more twists and turns in this unfolding narrative.
