L7: Back in Action

L7 fans were left reeling in 2001 when the groundbreaking grunge/alt-rock band called it quits, almost a decade after their hit single “Pretend We’re Dead” soared up the charts. However, due to overwhelming demand, the all-female group reunited in 2014 and are now delivering their signature sound with an even greater intensity.

The summer ahead looks incredibly busy for L7 as revealed in a series of Instagram posts. In June, the band will hit the road with Australian punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers, gracing Toronto on the 4th and Montreal on the 5th before setting the stage on fire at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on the 17th. July sees L7 traveling to Belgium for the Sjock 50 festival where they will share the stage with music legends like Joan Jett, Chris Isaak, The Raveonettes, and many more from the 10th to the 12th.

Fans couldn’t contain their excitement upon hearing about L7’s upcoming appearances at the Sjock fest. One enthusiast jokingly commented, “I might need to hop in the road case for this one,” while another proclaimed, “Best news of the year!” Someone else raved about the lineup, highlighting the anticipation surrounding the festival.

In an interview regarding the making of their album “Bricks Are Heavy” in 1992, Donita Sparks, a co-founding member of L7, revealed an interesting anecdote involving none other than Yoko Ono. Sparks expressed her admiration for Ono’s work and sought permission to sample her vocals on the track “Wargasm.” To her surprise, Ono not only granted permission but also personally called Sparks to offer support and praise for the band’s music, specifically mentioning the powerful lyrics of the song.

The resurgence of L7 in the music scene has been nothing short of remarkable, showcasing the enduring influence and relevance of their sound. With an exciting lineup of performances ahead and a history of breaking boundaries in the industry, L7 continues to captivate audiences with their raw talent and unapologetic approach to music.

Overall, L7’s return to the spotlight serves as a testament to the enduring impact of their music and the unwavering support of their dedicated fan base. Their upcoming summer tour promises to be a thrilling experience for both longtime fans and new listeners, solidifying their status as pioneers in the grunge and alt-rock genres.
