This year has been a whirlwind of emotions for fans of the iconic grunge rock band L7. With the exciting news of their summer tour, longtime listeners were thrilled to see the pioneering group hit the road once again. However, their latest announcement has added a touch of bittersweetness to the mix.
After over 30 years since the release of their hit single “Pretend We’re Dead,” L7 took to Instagram to reveal that they will be embarking on their final tour this fall. The band expressed their gratitude and humility in the post, acknowledging their four-decade-long career of blending punk ethos, heavy rock, melody, socio-political anthems, and humor. The caption announced The Last Hurrah Tour and emphasized the band’s excitement to connect with fans around the world one last time.
Tickets for the general public go on sale on Monday, May 11th at 10 a.m. local time for what will surely be a series of unforgettable performances. In a statement to Pitchfork, guitarist/singer Donita Sparks reflected on the band’s journey, noting the unexpected extension of their victory lap after the release of a documentary in 2015. Despite a hiatus between 2001 and 2014, L7’s return to the stage allowed them to create new music, tour extensively, and connect with both old and new fans.
The Last Hurrah Tour kicks off in Phoenix on Oct. 9 and includes stops in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Detroit, Denver, and more before concluding in Los Angeles on Nov. 14. But before they embark on their final run, L7 has a packed summer schedule ahead.
Starting in June, the band will tour with Australian punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers, with dates in Toronto and Montreal before a show at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. July will see L7 flying to Belgium to perform at the Sjock 50 festival alongside Joan Jett, Chris Isaak, The Raveonettes, and other acts.
In a time of uncertainty and change, the music world bids farewell to a beloved band with a legacy that will undoubtedly live on. L7’s final tour promises to be a celebration of their decades-long career, a loud, fun, and unquestionably unforgettable night of rock & roll.
