How To Know Your Skin Type

Most ladies do not know their skin type and as such do not take care in giving their skins the specific treatment it needs.

There are four types of skin: Oily, Dry, Combination and Normal skin.

How To Know Your Skin Type
Skin types vary depending on the combination of two or more factors.

  • Water content – affects your skin’s comfort and elasticity.
  • Lipid (oil) content – affects your skin’s softness and nutrition.
  • Level of sensitivity – affects your skin’s tolerance to certain substances.

Also, skin type can change with regard to age. Younger people tend to have normal skin.

1. Oily Skin: This type of skin looks shiny, has large visible pores, and is prone to breaking out in blackheads and pimples. Oily skin may be improved by the following steps:
Washing after exercise, or any activity which causes you to sweat;

Washing at not less than twice a day using a gentle soap that won’t irritate the skin;

Using only beauty products that are labelled as noncomedogenic. This means that they have been tested and demonstrated not to clog pores. This is particularly important if you wear makeup;

Not popping, picking or squeezing pimples and blackheads. This will make them worse and irritate the skin around them. It can cause scarring.

2. Dry Skin: Dry skin presents with dry patches, a wrinkled, dull and rough feel. This kind of skin can be improved by:

Avoiding hot showers;

Using moisturizers after a shower, and anytime you feel dry;

Heating your home moderately. If the air in your home tends to be very dry, try using a humidifier to keep it moist;

Protecting your skin from harsh chemicals. This may mean that you need to wear gloves when washing dishes, using strong soaps, or cleaning chemicals;

Protecting your skin from harsh weather. This includes wind, sunshine, and hot and cold temperatures. All can contribute to drying out your skin. Cover up as much as you can and wear sunscreen, even when it is cold but sunny.

3. Combination Skin:

This type of skin has both oily and dry surfaces. Some people may have oily faces and dry patches on their elbows, knees, feet etc. Some others just have oily patches on the T-zone of their faces. Notice what parts of your body have each of this type of skin and apply the tips above respectively.

4. Normal Skin:

This type of skin is usually found in younger people. It has neither blackheads nor dry patches. Normal Skin can be maintained by normal routines like:

Bathing at least once a day;

Moisturizing after every bath;

Not leaving your make-up on through the night.
