Keke Palmer recently opened up about her reaction to her ex-partner Darius Jackson publicly criticising her for wearing a sheer outfit to an Usher concert. In an interview with People, Palmer recalled her initial shock upon seeing Jackson’s post on X (formerly Twitter), which read, “It’s the outfit tho… you a mom”, alongside a clip of Usher serenading her in Las Vegas in July 2023.
“I was speechless,” Palmer shared. “I was at a photo shoot, and everyone was looking at me strangely. I asked, ‘Are y’all good?’ Then, I randomly checked my phone and saw the post. It was so crazy. I didn’t want to engage with something that wasn’t real and fan the flames.”
Reflecting on her choice of a sheer black Givenchy dress over a thong bodysuit, Palmer explained that she hadn’t seen her concert outfit as controversial. “I was just at a concert, doing what I do as an entertainer and creating a fun moment. I don’t know how it became a storyline that Usher and I are in love,” she clarified.
Palmer further explained how fame affected her relationship with Jackson, calling it an “unhealthy” dynamic. “It’s just been a monkey on my back all my life. I’m used to it,” she said, adding that while she enjoys a “very basic life,” the public’s perception can skew her reality. “I cannot control how people perceive me; I can only control how I show up,” she concluded.
Following Jackson’s viral comment, the pair, who share a one-year-old son, Leodis, encountered a custody dispute but later agreed on joint custody after court-ordered mediation. “The only way I knew how to bring order was through the court,” Palmer said.
