Shawn Mendes recently opened up about his ongoing connection with ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello. In an interview with The New York Times, the In My Blood singer reflected on their bond since they ended their two-year relationship in 2021.
Although they briefly rekindled their romance last year, Mendes shared that Cabello remains “one of my closest friends” and acknowledged the challenges of people perceiving them as being “against each other in a weird way,” which, he said, “bugs” him. Despite no longer being romantically involved, he added that they still stay in touch.
“If something were to happen in my family, or if something were to happen to me, she’d probably be the first person I’d call,” he said, noting that his relationship with his Señorita duet partner has deeply influenced his understanding of love. Cabello echoed these sentiments, saying during an appearance on Call Her Daddy that she will “always care about him and love him.”
Mendes also addressed the long-standing speculation about his sexuality while performing his new song, The Mountain, during a recent Colorado concert. Describing the topic as “such an intrusion on something very personal,” he said he’s “just figuring it out like everyone.”
