Kansas Prepares for 2026 Tour with New Lineup Amid Health Challenges

The iconic rock band Kansas is gearing up for a tour in 2026, despite facing health challenges within the group. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that the upcoming tour will feature a lineup without any original members. Following health issues, founding drummer Phil Ehart has been replaced by his former drum tech Eric Holmquist, and guitarist Scott Bernard is stepping in for longtime member Rich Williams. Bassist/singer Dan McGowan has officially joined the band after filling in over the summer, alongside keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, guitarist Zak Rizvi, and violinist/guitarist Joe Deninzon. Lead singer/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, who battled thyroid cancer earlier in the year, will also be part of the lineup.

The tour is set to kick off on Jan. 9 in Florida and will run through the end of May. One notable absence from the lineup is Rich Williams, who is still a member of Kansas but has had to cut back on touring due to macular degeneration. Williams clarified that he is not retiring but is slowing down due to his health condition, making travel to shows increasingly difficult. He expressed his confidence in the band’s ability to continue with Scott and Zak taking on additional responsibilities, ensuring the future of Kansas performances.

In a statement to Mass Live, Williams emphasized that the essence of Kansas as a band remains strong and resilient. Despite the changes in the lineup, the core spirit that defined the group in 1974 still holds true today. Williams’ decision to scale back his touring commitments reflects his dedication to the band’s longevity and the continuation of its musical legacy.

The evolution of Kansas and its ability to adapt to new circumstances highlight the band’s enduring influence in the music industry. The upcoming tour signifies a new chapter for the group, showcasing their commitment to delivering memorable performances to fans across the country. With a blend of seasoned musicians and fresh talent, Kansas is ready to embark on this next chapter with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
