Jodie Whittaker has announced that she will be reprising her role as the Doctor in a new Doctor Who audio series.
The actress, who portrayed the Thirteenth Doctor in the popular BBC series, shared the news during an appearance on BBC’s Morning Live.
This comes after David Tennant’s brief return as the Doctor, before handing over the role to Ncuti Gatwa, the Fifteenth Doctor.
In her interview, Jodie mentioned that she and Mandip Gill, who played Yasmin ‘Yaz’ Khan, will be featured in a special audio series titled The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures.
She revealed, “We’ve recorded three so far, and I think there are quite a few more in the season. It’s amazing; it’s the dream scenario.”
Jodie expressed her excitement about returning to the role, saying, “It’s playing the Doctor without learning the lines, which is my favorite part.
“On the first day, I told Mandip, ‘I don’t know if I can remember how to do the voice. What voice did I use?’ She just said, ‘that one.’ I thought I couldn’t do it, and when they offered me a chair, I insisted, ‘I can’t sit down and play the Doctor. Even if it’s not TV, I’ve got to be manic and fidgety.'”
She continued, “They’ve given me a little space, and physically, it is as exhausting as filming because I can’t sit still. It’s the dream scenario: playing the Doctor with Mandip, and instead of freezing cold fields, I’m in a warm studio.”
Jodie previously said she was “over the moon” to be heading back to the infamous character.
She said: “I’m over the moon to be joining Big Finish for more adventures in the TARDIS. Recording the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz is a really lovely thing to revisit.
“One of the things Mandip and I used to love on Doctor Who was getting in, doing a new episode and meeting a brand-new cast. I just can’t wait to step back into the boots, pull on the coat and get cracking.”
Mandip added: “Doctor Who has been a huge part of my career and personal life and I am looking forward to seeing how I can further enrich my character through this exhilarating series.
“To be able to work with Jodie again is a dream come true, we have such a special friendship, I’m sure the recordings will be filled with laughter.”
