Janet Jackson’s Performance in Delicious Festival Called Off After Her Brother’s Death

R&B icon Janet Jackson will no longer be performing at this year’s DStv Delicious Festival, scheduled for the weekend of 21-22 September 2024 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Johannesburg.

This change follows the passing of her brother, Tito Jackson.

In a statement, the festival organisers said: “We send our deepest condolences and support to Janet and her family during this time of mourning.” They added: “We understand that many fans were excited to see Janet Jackson perform, and the Festival’s Management Team is actively working on securing a suitable international replacement headliner to ensure an unforgettable experience.”

Janet Jackson’s management team also shared: “Janet’s brother Tito passed away this past Sunday. For obvious reasons, Janet has to cancel her performance at the DStv Delicious Festival to be with family. Management is making plans to come back next year. Janet also wishes to thank all of her South African fans for the warm and heartfelt support she’s receiving at this difficult time.”

It has been confirmed that ticket holders will be able to exchange their Saturday, 21 September tickets for Sunday, 22 September via Ticketmaster between 20:00 on Tuesday, 17 September and 23:59 on Wednesday, 18 September.

The festival will still feature Jill Scott alongside local talent, including Sjava, Thandiswa Mazwai, and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

Last year’s edition was headlined by Tems, Maxwell, and Shalamar.

The DStv Delicious Festival has become a staple on the South African entertainment calendar, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse musical acts. Despite Janet Jackson’s cancellation, this year’s festival promises to be memorable, with Jill Scott and top South African artists delivering soulful performances and timeless hits. Sjava’s unique Afro-soul blend, Thandiswa Mazwai’s jazz mastery, and the uplifting harmonies of the Soweto Gospel Choir will surely make it an unforgettable experience.
