SZA, the Grammy-winning R&B sensation, has announced an indefinite hiatus from live performances.
Following her electrifying headlining set at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival on August 5, the ‘Kill Bill’ hitmaker revealed on social media that she’s taking a break to prioritize her personal life.
After a whirlwind year of touring, with 63 shows across the globe for her ‘SOS’ Tour and a packed summer festival schedule, SZA is taking a well-deserved pause to focus on herself.
“Yesterday was my last show for a while. Finally, bout to get my life together. Thank u, God,” she shared on her X handle.
While SZA may be taking a break from the stage, her musical momentum remains unstoppable.
During her Lollapalooza set, she teased fans with a sneak peek of an unreleased track, “Cry Baby,” hinting that it’s “not out, but it will be.”
Moreover, she’s been teasing a new project, Lana, featuring never-before-heard material.
“Will be dropping the leaks and outtakes from SOS as promised as the deluxe asap,” SZA shared on X in March. “Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before.” She’s also previously hinted at a potential collaboration with Paramore.
Her admiration for fellow artists like Chappell Roan shows that she’s still deeply invested in the music scene.
“She makes me wanna keep making new music n art forever,” SZA captioned a video.
And why not? Her sophomore album, SOS, has been on the chart since its December 2022 release, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and refusing to budge.
Also, her single “Kill Bill” made history as her first solo No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2023, with an impressive staying power in the top 10.
SZA’s decision to take a break comes at the peak of her success, but with new music on the horizon, fans have plenty to look forward to.
