Is Lizzo’s Return to Animal Proteins the Secret to Her Newfound Confidence?

Lizzo’s decision to abandon her vegan lifestyle has left her feeling “good as hell.” The singer, best known for her hit “Cuz I Love You,” began her vegan journey in 2020 but has recently reintroduced animal proteins into her diet after developing a passion for Japanese cuisine.

In a TikTok video posted on October 10, the 36-year-old shared, “When I got to Japan, I was in awe of how clean and delicious their food was. I indulged in fresh sushi and fluffy eggs, and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day.”

Lizzo has also documented her weight-loss journey on TikTok, explaining that listening to her body has significantly improved her health. “After tests and research,” she noted, “I found that animal proteins helped me have more energy, lose weight, and reduced my mental fog.”

So, what does her current menu look like? Lizzo showcased new meat dishes in her video, including egg white cups, buffalo chicken lettuce wraps, and grilled chicken.

Despite this dietary shift, the “About Damn Time” singer emphasised that she still believes in the benefits of a vegan lifestyle, particularly the “raw vegan” approach of consuming only whole, plant-based foods. “I do believe that the vegan diet is still the healthiest diet to have,” she remarked. “I aspire to one day be a raw alkaline vegan. Until then, this is the diet that has helped me reach my goals and feel good in my body.”

Acknowledging that her return to meat might upset some followers, Lizzo referred to it as a “sensitive subject.” She stated, “I’d rather be honest and share my story in my own words. People are vegan for many reasons—health, environmental concerns, love for animals, or all of the above. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, white meat-only, or fully carnivorous, I’m not going to judge you. Do what’s best for you in your life at that moment.”

In true Lizzo fashion, she reminded her followers of what truly matters in life: “All that matters is that you’re happy. If you’re happy, I’m happy.”

In a September 2024 TikTok, Lizzo revealed her weight-loss transformation, showcasing herself in a black two-piece before cutting to a clip of her in a grey bodysuit that highlighted her toned figure. She captioned the video, “Fine both ways.”

Lizzo has been sharing her weight-loss journey on TikTok, including videos of her workouts. In one clip, she discussed her perseverance during exercise, stating, “I was doing the Stairmaster today at a higher level than normal,” adding that when she felt like quitting, she simply lowered the intensity. “Sometimes when you want to give up, it’s really just because you’ve been pushing yourself too hard. Don’t give up; just take it easier on yourself.”
