Say goodbye to Wordle, Connections, Connections Sports Edition, and Mini Crossword— because there’s a new word game in town from The New York Times. Enter “Strands,” the latest game gaining popularity as a daily activity for fans on the NYT website and app.
With daily themes and challenging “spangrams” to solve, Strands is the newest addictive game to check off your to-do list before a new one appears every 24 hours.
Interested in giving it a try? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to play Strands:
Find theme words to fill the board. These words will be highlighted in blue once discovered. Drag or tap the letters to create words, and if you’re tapping, simply double-tap the last letter to submit your word. The theme words must fill the board entirely without overlapping.
Next up, search for the “spangram.” This word describes the puzzle’s theme and connects two opposite sides of the board. Once found, it will be highlighted in yellow. For example, a spangram can include words like PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.
In need of a hint? Look for non-theme words to earn hints. For every three non-theme words you find, you’ll receive a hint that reveals the letters of a theme word. If there’s already an active hint on the board, a new hint will display the letter order of that word.
Today’s theme for Strands is “Shaking things up.” The hint for today’s game is “Moving around.”
For today’s puzzle, there are eight theme words to discover, including the spangram. Here are the first two letters of each word: SW, QU, WA, TE, WO, TR, VI, and LE (the spangram).
The spangram for today is mostly vertical.
And the answer to today’s spangram on NYT Strands is LETSROCK.
