Two individuals have been arrested in connection with an alleged bomb threat targeting Lady Gaga’s massive free concert on Copacabana Beach on Saturday, May 3rd.
According to reports, a man and a teenager were apprehended hours before the singer’s performance over a suspected plot to use explosives against Brazil’s LGBTQ+ community.
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro stated that the arrested pair were allegedly working to recruit people at the concert to carry out “coordinated attacks” using “homemade explosives.”
Lady Gaga’s spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that the singer, 39, was unaware of the alleged threat until it was reported in the media.
The spokesperson added that there were no known safety concerns communicated to Gaga or her team prior to or during the show, and that they worked closely with law enforcement who were confident in the security measures in place.
Despite the potential danger, Lady Gaga’s concert proceeded without incident, drawing an estimated 2.5 million fans – the largest crowd for any female artist in history.
Following the record-breaking performance, Lady Gaga expressed her gratitude and joy on Instagram, highlighting the vibrant culture of Brazil and the overwhelming experience of singing for such a massive audience.
She thanked Rio for waiting for her return and expressed her love for her fans.
