Have You Been Singing Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ Song Wrong This Whole Time?

Have you been singing Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ song wrong this whole time? In an episode of American Idol, Katy Perry revealed that most people have been singing the wrong lyrics to her 2010 smash hit “Firework” this whole time. On the show, Perry corrected her fellow judge Luke Bryan when he began to sing the chorus of the song as “up, up, up” and “ah, ah, ah.”

“It’s not ‘up, up, up,’ and it’s not ‘ahh, ahh, ahh,'” Perry said. “Well, what is it then? ‘Cause I’ve been dying to know all these years,” Bryan responded. “It’s ‘awe, awe, awe.'”

Perry’s revelation went viral, with many fans taking to social media to express their shock and disbelief. Some fans have even shared their own stories of singing the wrong lyrics for years.

In a follow-up Instagram post, Perry joked, “FOR THE OFFICIAL RECORD. It is AWE not UP. It is FIREWORK not FIREWORKSSS.” She also included a second slide in the post showing that the song was inspired by a line from Jack Kerouac’s 1951 book On the Road.

So, next time you’re singing along to “Firework,” be sure to remember that it’s “awe, awe, awe,” not “up, up, up.” And don’t worry if you get it wrong. Katy Perry herself says it’s all good.
