General Hospital Prepares Tribute for Eight-Time Daytime Emmy Winner Tony Geary

The passing of eight-time Daytime Emmy winner Tony Geary has left fans wondering how General Hospital will honor the actor who played a vital role in the long-running ABC soap. ABC executive Nathan Varni has revealed the show’s plans moving forward.

Varni, Head of Programming at ABC, took to social media to share that the General Hospital production team is currently working on a heartfelt montage to pay tribute to Geary’s legacy on the series. “Our team is working on a loving montage to be included later in the month, keep an eye out. RIP #TonyGeary 💔,” Varni announced.

Following Geary’s retirement from General Hospital in 2015, his iconic character Luke Spencer was later written out of the show with the character being killed off-screen in 2022. The beloved character’s ex-wife, Tracy Quartermain (Jane Elliot), returned to Port Charles to reveal that Luke had died in a tragic cable car accident orchestrated by his longtime rival, Victor Cassadine.

To honor Geary’s passing, General Hospital recently replayed his final episode from 2015 on New Year’s Day. Throughout his time on the show, Geary was recognized with eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, marking him as one of the most decorated actors in the genre’s history.

Geary officially retired from General Hospital in June 2015 but made a brief guest appearance in May 2017 as part of a storyline involving his long-time co-star Jane Elliott. According to TVInsider, Geary had filmed scenes with former co-star Anders Hove for an upcoming project before his passing.

Following his departure from General Hospital, Geary lived in Amsterdam with his husband, Claudio Gama, and largely remained out of the public eye. General Hospital continues to air weekdays on ABC and streams on Hulu weeknights.

In memory of Tony Geary, General Hospital is preparing a touching tribute montage to honor his lasting impact on the series. His legacy and contributions to the show will always be remembered by fans and the cast alike.
