Garrett Morris Reflects on Working with Sherman Hemsley on The Jeffersons

In a recent People interview, actor Garrett Morris, 89, shared warm memories of his time working alongside Sherman Hemsley on the popular sitcom, The Jeffersons. Morris, known for his role as con artist Jimmy, reflected on Hemsley’s generosity towards the cast, recalling how he would treat them to meals every Wednesday from an Asian restaurant. Not only did Hemsley provide a welcoming environment, but he also allowed Morris the freedom to bring his own flair to the character of Jimmy.

Morris made his debut as Jimmy in a season 9 episode titled “True Confessions,” where he portrayed a con man who fooled George and Louise Jefferson into believing they were sponsoring a needy child. Following the success of his character, Morris returned for a three-part episode in season 10, titled “Mission: Incredible,” showcasing his dynamic chemistry with Hemsley’s George Jefferson.

The Jeffersons, which aired from 1975 to 1985, featured a talented ensemble cast, including Isabel Sanford, Franklin Cover, and Marla Gibbs. Despite its end, the show’s legacy lives on through its timeless humor and memorable characters.
