Former Texas Teacher of the Year Sentenced to Probation for Sexual Abuse of Student

Brandyn Martin Hargrove, a former Texas Teacher of the Year, has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a former student when she was 15 years old. Despite facing serious charges including sexual assault of a child, Hargrove received 10 years of probation and will be on the sex offender registry for life.

The victim came forward nearly two decades after the abuse occurred, prompting an investigation by Clute Police. Hargrove’s family was present during the sentencing, and officials encourage other victims of historic abuse to speak up, promising to take their cases seriously.

Hargrove was dismissed from Brazoswood High School in early 2024 following the charges. The victim, now in her 30s, addressed Hargrove in court, expressing her journey from victim to survivor.
