Flight of Destiny

As the Amazon Upfronts unfolded, the highly anticipated news finally arrived: the adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ “Fourth Wing” was officially picked up to series by Prime Video. With Michael B. Jordan and Amazon MGM Studios backing the project, the move to the streaming platform was expected, but fans were still awaiting confirmation.

Not only did Jordan announce the series pickup, but he also introduced Lisa Joy as a fellow executive producer, who will be directing the first episode. The show will be helmed by showrunner Meredith Averill.

In discussing “Fourth Wing,” Averill highlighted the passionate fanbase that Yarros’ books have garnered, emphasizing the emotional depth, epic battles, thrilling power dynamics, humor, heart, and consuming romance that the series offers.

The plan is to adapt the entire “Empyrean” book series, with Yarros currently having three books published. Although fans had hoped for a fourth book in September 2026, Yarros has clarified that it won’t be happening. Her intense writing schedule for the third book, “Onyx Storm,” led to her missing out on other aspects of her life, prompting her to reduce her writing time to eight hours a day.

In addition to “Fourth Wing,” Yarros has been working on another novel titled “Peculiar Stars,” set to release on November 17, 2026. The book, described as a “castaway romance,” follows the story of a woman named Callista stranded on a deserted island with her cousin’s fiancé for over 500 days.

While there is no set release date for the “Fourth Wing” TV series, the scripts are currently in development, with casting yet to take place. The delay in the release of the next book in the series may provide Jordan and his team with the time needed to craft the TV show thoroughly. Each season, if renewed, will correspond to each subsequent book, with the second season following “Iron Flame.”
