Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk’s daughter, has described contrasting reactions from her parents regarding her gender transition.
In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, she stated that her father’s response was less supportive than her mother’s.
“He was not as supportive as my mom,” Vivian explained.
“First of all, I had not talked to him in months, so I had to get parental consent for testosterone blockers and hormone replacement therapy.”
In contrast, she described her mother, Justine Wilson, Musk’s first wife, as being highly supportive.
“She was very supportive of my transition. She is a published writer of supernatural romance fiction, which is where I get all my Vivian-isms,” she said.
“When I came out to her, she was like, ‘Yeah, that figures,'” Vivian recounted.
“She kind of [pieced it together], so when I came out, she pretended to be slightly surprised for 30 seconds and then was like, ‘Yeah, honey. Okay.'”
In June 2022, Vivian filed a legal request to change her first name and adopt her mother’s surname.
The court filing cited “gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form” as the reason for the change.
Two years later, Elon Musk claimed he believed he had been misled regarding Vivian’s medical gender reassignment.
Musk has 14 children with four different women.
