Prominent American TV personality, Ellen DeGeneres has chosen to conclude her on-screen career, retiring after over 40 years in the entertainment industry.
The news comes from Santa Clara, California, where DeGeneres has been answering questions from reporters and fans.
Why is Ellen DeGeneres retiring?
A fan asked the host if she planned to come back after wrapping up her tour for ‘Ellen’s Last Stand…Up.’
“No. This is the last time you’ll see me. After my Netflix special, I don’t want any more,” was the blunt statement from DeGeneres, who gave no further details on the matter.
“I’m leaving, goodbye,” DeGeneres firmly stated to her fans, who are pleading with her not to leave her position after numerous accomplishments and decades as a legend of the entertainment industry in the United States.
However, her reputation had been scrutinised for some time, particularly following allegations of a purported toxic work environment.
Back in 2020, a complaint was lodged against her, sparking a wave of additional allegations portraying the host as a bully who instilled fear among ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ staff.
Following a continuous decline in viewership, the show was finally cancelled.
