Elizabeth Warren Secures Re-election in the Massachusetts Senate Race

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been re-elected to the Senate for a third six-year term.

The 75-year-old defeated her Republican opponent, John Deaton, in the strong Democratic state of Massachusetts.

The Associated Press declared Warren the winner just minutes after the polls closed at 8 p.m.

With this victory, Warren, a former Harvard Law School professor, solidified her position as Massachusetts’ leading politician and, following her unsuccessful run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.

Warren’s opponent, Deaton, an attorney and first-time candidate, campaigned on a moderate platform, aligning himself with policies that appealed to Democrats.

He distanced himself from Trump, supported abortion rights, and likened himself to notable former Massachusetts Republicans.

However, Warren warned Massachusetts voters about the potential for a Republican majority in the Senate.

In her final campaign address on Tuesday night, Warren thanked her supporters for taking a chance on her and electing her as a Senator 12 years ago.

She also emphasized key issues that resonated with her constituents, specifically mentioning abortion.

Warren is not new to victory as she defeated Republican Scott Brown in 2012 and six years later, she easily defeated Republican opponent Geoff Diehl.
