Donnell Turner: The Journey to General Hospital Success

Donnell Turner has been a fixture on General Hospital for over a decade, embodying his childhood dream of joining the ABC soap opera. In a recent interview with ABC 11 anchor Dearon Smith, Turner shared his journey from sports to acting, his admiration for daytime television, and his experiences working on the long-standing series.

Turner confessed that since he was just 10 years old, he had been captivated by General Hospital. Recalling how watching Anthony Geary’s portrayal of Luke Spencer left a lasting impact on him, Turner emphasized how this influenced his decision to pursue acting. He also credited John Ritter on Three’s Company for shaping his interest in the craft, citing their passion for their work as inspirational.

Despite still being early in his acting career, Turner took a proactive approach and reached out to General Hospital’s casting director, Mark Teschner, through handwritten letters. Encouraged by friends who believed he had the look for a soap opera, Turner persisted in his pursuit of a role on the show. Years later, when he finally secured a role on General Hospital, Turner was surprised to see Teschner’s name still attached to the series after all the letters he had sent in the ’90s.

General Hospital airs on ABC weekdays and streams weeknights on Hulu, providing fans with a daily dose of drama and entertainment. Turner’s journey from a young soap opera enthusiast to a seasoned actor on General Hospital is a testament to the power of determination and passion in pursuing one’s dreams in the entertainment industry.
