Doctor Who Finds New Home on AMC+

In the ever-evolving world of Doctor Who, where endings are never set in stone, the past year has proven that even offscreen, change is inevitable. After a sudden end to its partnership with Disney+ following Ncuti Gatwa’s two-season run, American fans were left wondering where they could reliably catch the series. The answer finally arrived this week in the form of an exclusive new U.S. streaming home on AMC+.

Starting Thursday, June 11, AMC+ will be home to all 13 seasons and 176 episodes (including specials) of Doctor Who. The move holds a nostalgic touch, as BBC America, also under AMC Networks, was the U.S. cable home for the series from 2009 to 2022, making this a fitting homecoming for the beloved franchise in America.

This collection spans the first five Doctors of the modern revival—Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker—taking viewers on a journey that aired in the UK from 2005 to 2022. The series garnered various BAFTA awards and a Peabody Award during this time.

The release coincides with the 20th anniversary of the series’ U.S. premiere, and AMC+ is celebrating with a limited-time annual subscription offer of $29.99 until May 25.

This library addition encompasses the core of the modern Whoniverse, featuring Eccleston’s sharp relaunch season, the blockbuster Tennant era, Matt Smith’s beloved Eleventh Doctor run, Peter Capaldi’s reflective era, and Jodie Whittaker’s groundbreaking portrayal as the first female Doctor.

Notably absent from this deal are the most recent seasons produced by the BBC in partnership with Disney, starring Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, which remain on Disney+. The end of the Disney+ agreement signals BBC Studios’ search for a new international partner for future seasons of Doctor Who.

While a Christmas special is confirmed for later in 2026, the fate of new seasons remains uncertain. Whether AMC+ will become the first-run home for future episodes remains a topic of speculation within the fan community.

The arrival of Doctor Who on AMC+ offers American audiences a comprehensive, easily accessible modern library of the series, on a platform known for its dedicated genre fanbases. As Courtney Thomasma, Executive Vice President of AMC Global Media, shared in the announcement, AMC+ is excited to welcome the Whoniverse into their fold, providing both longtime fans and new audiences alike a chance to indulge in one of television’s most beloved franchises.
