A surprising video has gone viral showing Brigitte Macron, the First Lady of France, pushing her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, as they arrived in Vietnam on Sunday.
The moment happened when the couple’s plane landed in Hanoi. As a staff member opened the plane door, Brigitte, 72, placed both hands on 47-year-old President Macron’s face and pushed him back.
President Macron looked surprised and was seen trying to play it off by waving to the people waiting to greet them.
He then went back inside the plane for a few moments, out of public view.
When they finally came out together, they walked side-by-side but didn’t hold hands.
It even looked like President Macron offered his arm, but his wife didn’t take it.
On Monday, President Macron tried to explain the incident, saying he and his wife were “squabbling and, rather, joking.”
He added, “Everyone needs to calm down,” and blamed his opponents for making a big deal out of it, calling it “a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe.”
