Delta and Aeromexico Planes Nearly Collide at TakeoffClose Call at Mexico City Airport

In a heart-stopping moment at Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport, two commercial aircraft narrowly avoided a catastrophic collision. The Aeromexico regional jet landed just ahead of a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 that was already accelerating for takeoff. The Delta flight, with 144 passengers and six crew members on board, had to abort its takeoff as the Aeromexico plane flew just 200 feet above it before landing.

Quick thinking by Delta’s pilots averted disaster, and the flight was safely returned to the terminal. After a three-hour delay, the plane eventually departed for Atlanta. The incident has been reported to Mexican aviation authorities, as well as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Delta has pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

Mexico’s aviation safety rating had been downgraded in the past due to non-compliance with international standards but it regained its Category One rating with FAA support. However, neither Aeromexico nor Mexico’s civil aviation authority has publicly addressed the incident.

The hair-raising incident serves as a reminder of the importance of well-trained flight crews and strict adherence to safety protocols. Situational awareness and quick action were key in preventing a potential disaster in the skies above Mexico City. As women, we value our safety and that of our loved ones, making it crucial to stay vigilant and prepared in all situations, whether on the ground or in the air.
