Dee Snider Speaks Out About Health Issues That Cancelled Twisted Sister Tour
Dee Snider, the 71-year-old musician and singer, recently discussed the health issues that led him to withdraw from the Twisted Sister 50th Anniversary Reunion Tour. In a candid interview on the podcast “The Jasta Show” with host Jamey Jasta, Snider opened up about his battle with degenerative arthritis, which has impacted his body, causing heart problems and hypertension.
The chronic condition of arthritis involves inflammation and degeneration of joints, resulting in pain, stiffness, and limited mobility. Snider bravely shared details of his struggles, revealing, “My body has been plagued by growing arthritis that has spread throughout. It’s a constant source of pain, affecting my shoulders, neck, arms, and legs.”
Despite attempting to manage the chronic illness with painkillers, the side effects led to additional health complications. He expressed his desire to join his bandmates on the tour but ultimately made the difficult decision to step back after his children, Jesse, Shane, Cody, and Cheyenne, pleaded with him to prioritize his health. In a heartfelt moment, Snider recalled his children’s plea, “My kids sat me down and said, ‘Please stop, because you are going to kill yourself.”
The band initially planned a world tour to celebrate their 50-year milestone, but unfortunately, the tour was canceled in February due to Snider’s health challenges. Despite this setback, Twisted Sister announced a limited run tour in the fall, with Sebastian Bach stepping in as the lead vocalist. Rescheduled dates are yet to be announced.
Twisted Sister, a heavy metal band formed in 1976, gained fame in the 1980s with hits like “I Wanna Rock” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Known for their bold music videos and distinctive style, they have released seven studio albums, with their latest being “A Twisted Christmas” in 2006.
In the face of health struggles, Dee Snider’s decision to prioritize his well-being serves as a reminder of the importance of self-care and family support. As fans eagerly await the band’s return to the stage, Snider’s honesty and resilience shine through, inspiring others to prioritize health above all else.
