On Friday the 13th, superstitions usually run high and bad luck is in the air. However, at Chipotle, burrito lovers are in for a stroke of luck. The chain has announced a special promotion that could score fans a buy-one-get-one free entrée during a one-hour “flash” event on Friday, March 13. The catch? You’ll need to show off your ink.
From 3 to 4 p.m. local time, customers who visit a participating Chipotle restaurant with any kind of tattoo can unlock the BOGO deal. And when we say any kind of tattoo, we mean it—whether it’s a permanent ink masterpiece, a temporary tattoo, a doodle drawn on with a pen, or any creative tattoo-inspired look, you’re in.
The promotion was inspired by the viral phrase “tatted like a Chipotle bag,” which compares heavily tattooed skin to the artwork on the brand’s takeout bags. The meme has gained popularity online over the years, serving as a playful way for fans to show their loyalty to the brand.
“What started as an internet meme became a real-world expression of fandom for our brand,” said Stephanie Perdue, Interim Chief Marketing Officer in a press release. “Bringing this promotion back for Friday the 13th further establishes our connection with the tattoo community.”
To celebrate the promotion, Chipotle has teamed up with hip-hop star Swae Lee to create a limited-edition flash tattoo sheet inspired by the bold artwork found on Chipotle bags. “‘Tatted like a Chipotle bag’ is really about self-expression,” said Swae. “It was cool to bring it into the real world and create designs that actually feel like me.”
The temporary tattoos will only be available at one location—the Midtown Miami Chipotle at 3201 N. Miami Ave.—from 3 to 4 p.m. ET, while supplies last. However, the BOGO deal itself is available at participating Chipotle locations across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, and Germany, limited to in-store orders only.
So, mark your calendars for Friday the 13th and get ready to show off your ink for a delicious burrito deal at Chipotle.
