Charlie’s Angels Revival

The iconic 70s TV series, “Charlie’s Angels,” is making a return to the big screen once again. As the beloved show approaches its 50th anniversary, Sony is currently in the process of developing a new feature film version of “Charlie’s Angels.” Renowned screenwriter Pete Chiarelli, best known for his work on romantic comedies such as “The Proposal” and the adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians,” has been hired to pen the script for this exciting revival.

In a delightful twist, Drew Barrymore, who produced two previous film adaptations of the classic series, is set to produce the new film through her company, Flower Films. Barrymore’s involvement adds an extra layer of nostalgia and anticipation for fans of the original series.

The original “Charlie’s Angels” series captivated audiences with its trio of dynamic female leads – Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson – who traded in their mundane police academy jobs for thrilling adventures as private investigators. The show, which aired for 115 episodes from 1976 to 1981, quickly became a fan favorite despite facing some critical backlash.

The first cinematic adaptation of “Charlie’s Angels” hit theaters in 2000, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. The film was a box office success, paving the way for a sequel in 2003 titled “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.” However, the franchise faced a setback in 2019 with another big-screen adaptation that failed to resonate with audiences.

Looking back at the original stars of the series, Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and Cheryl Ladd are set to reunite at PaleyFest in Los Angeles to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary. The actresses expressed their pride in being able to entertain audiences and inspire young women around the world with their empowering characters.

As the anticipation builds for this new chapter in the “Charlie’s Angels” saga, fans can expect a fresh take on the iconic series that continues to resonate with audiences across generations. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting revival of a beloved classic.
