Celebrity chef Margarita Fores passed away this week at the age of 65. Her son and restaurant partner, Amado Fores, confirmed the sad news in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“Dear Friends and Family, It is with a heavy heart that I share the sudden passing of my Mom, Margarita A. Forés,” Amado wrote. “Our family is mourning this unexpected loss, and we kindly ask for your prayers during this time. We will share more when we are able. With gratitude, Amado.”
According to the Manila Standard, Fores was found “unresponsive” in her hotel room after missing a lunch meeting this week.
Fores, who was named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016, was a two-time cancer survivor, having overcome thyroid cancer in 2006, as reported by Metro UK.
Her social media accounts celebrated her passion for food and innovative culinary creations. Amado’s Instagram stories also featured an outpouring of love from fans and fellow chefs mourning her passing.

In December 2024, Fores shared her excitement about finally dining at Noma Kyoto with René Redzepi. “What a way to end 2024!” she wrote.
