Canadian hardcore punk band Cancer Bats has announced an upcoming spring tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Birthing the Giant. The tour will take them across Canada, giving long-time fans the opportunity to experience the album live from start to finish in various cities. Tickets for the tour went on sale last Friday.
Starting on April 3 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the anniversary trek will span the country before concluding on April 25 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Joining them on select dates will be fellow Canadian heavy acts Anciients, TEETH, and Chastity, adding to the celebration of Canada’s heavy music scene.
Frontman Liam Cormier, the band’s sole remaining original member, expressed his excitement about reaching this milestone. “I can’t believe Birthing The Giant is twenty years old,” Cormier shared. The band is thrilled to honor the album “from Coast to Coast” and revisit cities where they have performed for the past two decades.
Released in 2006, Birthing the Giant introduced Cancer Bats as a powerful force in hardcore punk. The album’s blend of raw energy, heavy metal riffs, and intense vocals set them apart, with songs like “French Immersion,” “100 Grand Canyon,” and “Pneumonia Hawk” becoming fan favorites across Canada.
For this special tour, the band plans to perform the album in its entirety at most stops, along with other beloved tracks from their catalog. The only exception will be their appearance at Pouzza Fest in Montreal on May 16, due to time constraints. Details for a Winnipeg show are still pending.
The tour includes stops in major cities like Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Victoria, as well as smaller markets. Despite facing challenges like the theft of their tour van and equipment in 2025, Cancer Bats have continued to tour extensively and maintain a presence in the heavy music scene.
Today’s lineup features Cormier on vocals, Mike Peters on drums, Jaye R. Schwarzer on bass and guitar, and Jackson Landry on guitar. With their loud music, familiar venues, and genuine passion for their roots, Cancer Bats are poised to remind audiences why Birthing the Giant remains significant in their discography.
