Game day for young athletes can often be filled with tension and drama, as parents are well aware. Co-host of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Jenna Bush Hager, recently experienced this firsthand when she was “banned” from her 13-year-old daughter’s volleyball games. However, the reason behind her exile turned out to be more humorous than hurtful.
The amusing incident occurred when the score was six to seven during a game, and Bush Hager couldn’t resist shouting out, “Six, seven!” This innocent act of encouragement did not sit well with her newly turned teenager, who promptly banned her from attending any more games. Despite Bush Hager’s attempts to promise she would be quiet, her daughter firmly informed her, “You’re not capable.” And just like that, she was suspended from attending any more games.
The volleyball mishap was something Bush Hager had previously discussed on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, where she shared how she had been “frozen out” after the incident. Despite the embarrassment of her cheering faux pas, Bush Hager holds out hope that she may be “unfrozen” in the future, with a resolution to not seek attention during games.
This is not the first time Bush Hager’s enthusiastic cheering has caused some consternation among her children. Her youngest, 6-year-old Hal, has also expressed frustration with her loud cheering at his flag football games. It seems Bush Hager, a self-proclaimed “sports kid,” has a knack for getting a little too involved in the excitement of her children’s activities.
Growing up as the daughter of former President George W. Bush, who was a part-owner of the Texas Rangers, Bush Hager has always been surrounded by sports. However, it seems even her presidential connections couldn’t protect her from the embarrassment of sideline antics.
In the world of parenting and sports, it seems everyone, even a former First Daughter, can fall victim to a little sideline mishap.
