Bosse-de-Nage Returns with New Album “Hidden Fires Burn Hottest”

After an eight-year hiatus from releasing any new music, the metal band Bosse-de-Nage is making a comeback. The group’s independent record label, The Flenser, recently announced the upcoming release of Bosse-de-Nage’s sixth studio album, titled “Hidden Fires Burn Hottest,” scheduled for March 6. This will be their first release since their 2018 album “Further Still.”

Adding to the excitement, the lead single from the album, “No Such Place,” was dropped on Monday and is now available on all streaming platforms. According to Metal Injection, Bosse-de-Nage has had a longstanding collaboration with The Flenser, spanning over fifteen years, making them one of the first artists to partner with the dark music label.

Described as a band that defies easy categorization, Bosse-de-Nage hails from San Francisco and is known for its experimental style that draws from influences across various subgenres like post-rock, shoegaze, post-hardcore, screamo, and indie rock. Consisting of members Harry Cantwell, Bryan Manning, and two anonymous members known as D. and M., the group has been an integral part of the blackgaze scene in the Bay Area.

Since signing with The Fader, Bosse-de-Nage has delivered a series of impactful albums, starting with their self-titled debut in 2010, followed by “II” and “III” in 2011 and 2012, then “All Fours” in 2015, leading up to their last release in 2018.

In a nod to their collaborative spirit, Bosse-de-Nage also released a joint EP with fellow San Francisco-based black metal band Deafheaven back in 2012, featuring the track “A Mimesis of Purpose.”

Bryan Manning, discussing the lead single “No Such Place,” revealed that it is one of the oldest tracks on the album and represents a departure from their previous work on “Further Still.” Manning shared, “It is perhaps the closest realization of the original vision we had for this album… All of the restrictions we placed on ourselves for ‘Further Still’ have been shed like old skin and a new form has emerged.”

With “Hidden Fires Burn Hottest” set to debut on streaming platforms on March 6, fans can expect a fresh and bold take on the signature Bosse-de-Nage sound. The album promises to be a riveting exploration of their musical evolution and artistic vision, marking a significant moment in their storied career.
