Billy Idol Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: American Idol Season 24 Celebrates with Epic Performance

Billy Idol was among the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, a milestone celebrated on the latest episode of American Idol Season 24.

In a surprising collaboration, English rock legend Billy Idol and guitarist Steve Stevens joined forces with American Idol judge Carrie Underwood for a show-stopping duet performance of Idol’s 1984 classic “Rebel Yell.” Underwood, known for her love of metal music, fit right in with her glam-rock ensemble, electrifying the audience with her powerhouse vocals.

The performance featured Underwood kicking off the song with the first verse before Idol took the stage in a red leather jacket, belting out the iconic chorus. Stevens showcased his guitar skills with a solo, leading to a confetti-filled finale that left the judges and host Ryan Seacrest in awe.

Released in 1984, “Rebel Yell” never hit No. 1 but became a fan favorite, later being voted one of the “Best Hard Rock Songs of All Time” on VH1 in 2009.

The collaboration was part of American Idol’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed episode, featuring performances from the 2026 inductees. The episode also announced the other inductees, including Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan.

Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons received the Early Influence Award, while Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin were honored with the Musical Excellence Award. Ed Sullivan will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

In a post-performance Instagram caption, Underwood expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to share the stage with Billy Idol and Steve Stevens, calling it an honor to perform with “real legends.” The collaboration showcased the timeless appeal and cross-generational influence of Idol’s music.

Overall, the performance was a testament to the enduring power of rock music and the ability of artists like Billy Idol to transcend generations with their bold, iconic sound.
