Tina Knowles, Beyoncé and Solange’s mom, has revealed she quietly battled breast cancer.
In an interview on CBS Mornings, Tina shared that she missed a regular breast cancer screening during the COVID-19 pandemic and didn’t go back until July 2024.
When she finally did, doctors found two lumps in her left breast—one was harmless, but the other was stage 1 cancer.
She had surgery in August to remove the cancer and is now cancer-free.
Tina, who is 71, said she was very nervous before the operation. Her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, along with a few friends, visited her in the hospital to show support.
After surgery, she had a serious infection that almost stopped her from attending Glamour’s 2024 Women of the Year event, where she was being honored. But Tina chose to go anyway, saying it was important to celebrate her second chance at life.
“For most of my life, I didn’t like being in the spotlight or accepting awards,” she said. “But this time, I felt like I deserved it.”
Tina also remembered Beyoncé encouraging her not to go to the event, saying, “Your health is more important.” But Tina wanted to be there.
