From my earliest memories, I have always preferred dresses over pants. To this day, my closet is brimming with feminine frocks. While I do have a collection of leggings, I occasionally opt for more polished bottoms. Recently, denim has been catching my eye, leading me to explore incorporating more jeans into my wardrobe.
After delving into 2026 denim trends, I was surprised to find that baggy jeans are currently in vogue. As more of a skinny jean enthusiast, I was hesitant about jumping on this trend. Nevertheless, I decided to keep an open mind and embarked on a shopping spree to try on 12 different pairs of baggy jeans to identify the best styles for me.
If you’re like me, trying on jeans can be as dreaded as trying on bathing suits. To combat this, I brought my husband along for moral support. My concern wasn’t the jeans themselves, but rather the varying sizes among different brands, making it a tedious process to find the perfect fit.
After visiting six stores and trying on 12 pairs of baggy jeans, I compiled a list of the best styles. Here are the top nine baggy jeans that stood out to me, along with three you can skip.
Starting with the LC Lauren Conrad Women’s Super High Rise Wide-Leg Jeans from Kohl’s, I was drawn to the retro oversized pockets, adding a unique charm to the denim. Moving on to Levi’s Women’s 318 Shaping High-Stretch Wide-Leg Jeans, I appreciated the flattering mid-rise fit and the wider bottom design.
I also tried on the Steve Madden Women’s Sydnee Straight-Fit Jeans from Macy’s, impressed by the delicate white pearls at the hem and the light wash perfect for the upcoming seasons. The Steve Madden Chlo High Rise Peplum Wide Leg Jeans from Bloomingdale’s caught my eye with the unexpected peplum ruffle detail adding a stylish twist to the wide-leg silhouette.
Transitioning to Lands’ End High Rise Wide-Leg Denim Jeans, these jeans offered a comfortable yet subtly baggy look ideal for those exploring the baggy denim trend. H&M’s Baggy Wide Low Waist Jeans showcased a wider cut, providing a bold statement while maintaining a light wash suitable for various styling options.
The Women’s Sonoma Goods For Life High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans from Kohl’s exuded a ’70s energy with a high-rise silhouette perfect for a carefree look. On the other hand, Madewell’s The Ultimate Wide-Leg Jean in Tile White presented a versatile white denim option reminiscent of summer linen pants.
Lastly, Primark’s Low-Rise Baggy Jeans incorporated a touch of bagginess without feeling overwhelming, offering a perfect introduction to the baggy denim trend. While these jeans are suitable for my personal style, they may not flatter all body types.
In contrast, I encountered a few baggy jeans that did not resonate with me. H&M’s High-Waist Barrel-Leg Ankle Jeans felt frumpy and unflattering, while Madewell’s Pull-On Jeans in Cotton-Linen Denim reminded me more of sweatpants than jeans. The Primark Ultimate Cotton Denim Barrel-Leg Jeans felt sloppy and oversized, reminiscent of Hammer pants.
Exploring the world of baggy jeans was an eye-opening experience, allowing me to broaden my denim horizons and experiment with new styles.
