BABYMETAL entered the new year with a bang, bringing back a beloved song from their early days after a 14-year hiatus. The Japanese kawaii metal band, known for their rapid rise to global fame in the early 2010s, is commemorating a significant career milestone. To mark their 15th anniversary, the trio, made up of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and Momoko Okazaki, reimagined their iconic track “Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!” with a modern twist.
On their official YouTube channel, BABYMETAL unveiled a re-recorded version of the 2012 hit, paying homage to the sound that propelled them onto the international stage. The updated rendition features a more intense mix that emphasizes the metal elements, with thicker guitar tones and punchier drums. Fans on social media lauded the band for their pioneering fusion of idol pop and heavy metal.
In addition to the musical celebration, the revamped track also served as a tribute to Mikio Fujioka, the guitarist of BABYMETAL’s backing band, the Kami Band, who tragically passed away at the age of 36 in 2018. Fans noted the homage to Fujioka in the video, recognizing the symbolism and significance behind the ghostly figure in white.
Transitioning from their reimagined song, BABYMETAL made history in August 2025 with the release of their fifth studio album, METAL FORTH. The album, which features collaborations with prominent musicians such as Poppy, Tom Morello, and Electric Callboy, propelled the band to new heights. Notably, BABYMETAL became the first all-Japanese fronted band to break into the top ten of the Billboard 200, debuting at No. 9 on the prestigious chart.
Expressing gratitude to their fans for their unwavering support, BABYMETAL embraced their global growth and evolution in the music industry. As they continue on their journey of “Beyond HEAVY METAL,” the band looks forward to connecting with audiences worldwide through their music and live performances.
