Anna Wintour Receives Honour from King Charles Wearing Queen Mary’s Necklace

The longtime editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, was honored as a Companion of Honour by King Charles in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours list for her contributions to fashion.

On Tuesday, February 4, Wintour attended the ceremony at Buckingham Palace, wearing a striking necklace adorned with large amethysts, which reportedly has royal significance.

She paired her structured gray blazer and matching skirt with a simple white shirt and her signature sunglasses.

The luxury jewels once belonged to King Charles’ grandmother, Queen Mary.

After receiving her honor, Wintour expressed, “It’s wonderful to be back at Buckingham Palace, and I was completely surprised and overwhelmed to be given this great honor,” as reported by The Independent.

The Order of the Companions of Honour consists of no more than 65 members at any time and recognizes significant contributions to the arts, science, medicine, or government.

Wintour mentioned that she and the King discussed her work ethic during their conversation.

“The last time I was here, [Queen Elizabeth] gave me a medal, and we both agreed that we had been doing our job a very long time,” she said.

“And then this morning, His Majesty asked me if this meant I was going to stop working, and I said firmly, ‘No.'”
