An Alaska man, Kayden McIntosh, will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted in a chilling murder case. McIntosh, along with five others, was manipulated into luring 19-year-old Cynthia Hoffman to a waterfall near Anchorage in 2019. There, Hoffman was bound and shot in the head before her body was disposed of in a river. McIntosh received a sentence of 85 years in prison, with 15 years suspended, ensuring he will serve 70 years.
Judge Andrew Peterson described McIntosh’s involvement as calculated and premeditated, stating that he played an active role in planning Hoffman’s murder. McIntosh pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, with a plea agreement ranging from 30 to 85 years. Despite the family’s desire for the maximum sentence, the 85-year term was considered appropriate.
The mastermind behind the murder plot was Darin Schilmiller, who posed as a wealthy man offering $9 million to teenagers to carry out the crime. In reality, Schilmiller was broke and living in his grandparents’ basement in Indiana. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison for soliciting murder and conspiracy to produce child pornography.
Other defendants, including Denali Dakota Skye Brehmer and Caleb Allen Russell Leyland, were also convicted and received lengthy prison sentences. The tragic case shocked the community, with Hoffman’s father passing away on the same day as the anniversary of his daughter’s death, adding to the family’s grief.
