Driving into the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo feels like entering another world. Surrounded by dense jungle and complete remoteness, the sense of disconnect from civilization is palpable. The feeling of being dropped into a scene from Jurassic Park is inescapable, until the trees part and reveal the stunning architectural marvel that awaits, making it clear why people never want to leave.
Located in Mexico’s underrated Costalegre area, just a short flight from Los Angeles, the property feels both remarkably close and a world away. Over five days, we discovered a resort that expertly balances luxury with environmental responsibility, while keeping families entertained and engaged.
The resort’s signature restaurant, Coyul, collaborates with Elena Reygada, World’s Best Female Chef of 2023, to create dishes that highlight fresh Mexican ingredients with a modern twist. The presentation alone is worth it, but the flavors truly match up. The addition of pastries from Mexico City’s famous Rosetta bakery during breakfast was a delightful surprise.
What truly impressed us was the on-site farm, Rancho Lola, where kids can interact with goats and chickens that provide eggs for the restaurants. Understanding where our food came from transformed the dining experience into something truly memorable.
Our cliffside suite, with an infinity pool overlooking unobstructed ocean views, felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The outdoor shower and spacious terrace made it tempting to spend all day in the room, rather than exploring the property.
The resort’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its 3,000-acre private nature reserve and on-site farm that supplies the restaurants with indigenous ingredients. It feels like a genuine effort to preserve this untouched corner of Mexico, rather than just greenwashing.
With a range of activities for families, from kayaking and snorkeling to golfing and whale-watching tours, the resort offers something for everyone. The quiet, pristine beaches allow for peaceful relaxation, without the chaos of a typical resort.
Discovering a place that feels truly secluded and unspoiled is a rare find. Our experience at Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo left us wanting to return even before we left. It’s a bucket-list destination we didn’t know we needed, until now.
