Graeter’s has unveiled a groundbreaking new ice cream flavor that is sure to leave the competition in the dust. Inspired by the thrill of the Kentucky Derby, this limited-edition collaboration between Graeter’s and Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky introduces the Backstretch Bourbon Cherry Ice Cream.
“We’ve always seen a natural fit between Graeter’s and Churchill Downs,” shared Richard Graeter, the fourth-generation president and CEO of Graeter’s Ice Cream. “When the Churchill Downs team visited our factory and tasted our ice cream straight from the French Pots, we knew we had something special with Backstretch Bourbon Cherry.”
This year’s flavor, described as “bourbon-kissed ice cream blended with black cherries and pralines,” is a departure from last year’s Bourbon Ball ice cream which featured rich dark chocolate and bourbon-glazed pecans. The partnership with Churchill Downs brings this new flavor to select grocery stores and Graeter’s Scoop Shops, as well as online for nationwide shipping.
In celebration of this collaboration, Graeter’s has also introduced the “Off to the Races Collection,” featuring special multipacks of ice cream available exclusively through their website. These packs include the Backstretch Six-Pint Pack, the Winner’s Circle Six-Pint Pack featuring Kern’s Kitchen Derby Pie, and the Trifecta Chip Wheelies Pack.
Guests attending the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby will have the chance to sample the new Backstretch Bourbon Cherry ice cream, along with Graeter’s signature Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip flavor, at select suites and dining areas. Additionally, the Graeter’s Ice Cream Truck will make its Kentucky Derby debut on May 1 and 2, offering attendees the opportunity to try these delicious flavors.
