As the U.S. adjusts to Daylight Saving Time, Carnival Cruise Line is serving a timely reminder to vacationers that time waits for no one—even at sea. Recently, the cruise line addressed a common but costly issue: guests missing out on private excursions due to confusion between “ship time” and local port time.
The problem came to light when a guest reached out to Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald to express frustration over missing a private tour. Many popular Caribbean destinations, such as Mexico, Jamaica, and Roatan, do not observe Daylight Saving Time. This results in guests unknowingly stepping into a different time zone when disembarking, leading to missed opportunities.
Heald responded on Facebook, emphasizing that guests booking private excursions outside of Carnival Cruise Line must take personal responsibility to ensure they are aligned with local timings. He clarified that the cruise line cannot be held accountable for missed excursions due to time discrepancies between the ship and port.
One major culprit in this confusion is the modern smartphone, which automatically updates to local time. While convenient, this feature can lead to confusion for cruisers as the ship may still be operating on its original schedule. Carnival uses various methods to communicate the correct time, including the Hub app, newsletters, and gangway signage. However, the ultimate stance is clear: passengers who stray from the ship’s official clock do so at their own risk.
In the world of cruise travel, timing is everything. Carnival Cruise Line is taking the opportunity to educate guests on the importance of being aware of time differences while onboard. Whether it’s enjoying a private excursion or making it back on time for departure, being vigilant about time is essential for a seamless vacation experience.
