Trader Joe’s Frozen Meals Recall: Glass Shards Found in Chicken Fried Rice

When you reach into your freezer for a quick dinner, the last thing you expect to find is shards of glass. But that’s exactly the unexpected danger that prompted a major recall of frozen meals sold at Trader Joe’s nationwide. While thankfully no injuries have been reported, it’s a good idea to double-check your freezer for any potentially affected products.

Ajinomoto Foods North America recently issued a recall affecting over three million pounds of frozen meals produced between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025. Some of these products were sold at Trader Joe’s locations across the U.S., with a smaller portion distributed in Canada. The issue arose when consumers reported finding pieces of glass in the food, prompting the recall.

The recalled items include Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice and another frozen meal exported to Canada. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service advises consumers not to consume these products and instead either dispose of them or return them to the store for a refund. The affected Trader Joe’s version comes in a 20-ounce plastic bag with best-by dates between Sept. 8, 2026, and Nov. 17, 2026, and bears the USDA establishment number P-18356.

Although the presence of glass in food is certainly concerning, it’s important to note that only a small number of complaints led to this action, and there have been no reported injuries. However, it’s always better to err on the side of caution, especially when it comes to potentially hazardous food items.

Recalls like this one are monitored closely by the USDA to ensure that both retailers and consumers are informed. If you have any questions or concerns, Ajinomoto Foods offers a consumer hotline at 855-742-5011, and the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854).

Frozen meals are undoubtedly convenient, but incidents like these serve as a reminder to always inspect our food carefully. An extra moment spent checking labels could save you from unnecessary worry or a trip to the doctor. Plus, maybe it’s a chance to shake up your dinner routine by trying something new this week!
