Trials and Tribulations of Triple-D Favorites

Fans of Guy Fieri’s popular show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” have felt the exhilaration of stepping into a restaurant that has received the coveted Flavortown seal of approval. However, not every establishment featured on the show has been able to withstand the challenges of the restaurant industry. From escalating rents and pandemic-related closures to dwindling foot traffic and owner fatigue, a surprising number of Triple-D favorites have sadly had to close their doors for good, even after a visit from the charismatic Fieri himself.

One such example is Ben’s Best Deli in Queens, NY, which served the community for an impressive 73 years before shutting down in 2018 due to slow business associated with a lack of parking caused by the city’s installation of bike lanes. This closure reflects a larger trend of traditional kosher delis disappearing across New York City.

Another loss was Eight Noodle Shop in Napa, CA, which offered comforting noodle bowls in a region known more for its wine tastings. Despite appearing on the show just a year prior, the restaurant closed permanently in 2019, leaving a ramen-shaped hole in the hearts of many locals.

These closures remind us of the fragility of the restaurant industry and the challenges that even beloved establishments face in today’s ever-changing landscape. It serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance required for long-term success in the food world.
