Vince Gill, country legend, released the fourth EP in his “50 Years From Home” series, teaming up with CMA Awards entertainer of the year winner Lainey Wilson for the title track, “Down At The Borderline.” The rockin’, Cajun-flavored song, co-written with Liz Rose, paints a vivid picture of a joint in Thibodaux, Louisiana where Zydeco music plays and alligators are wrangled. Wilson, a proud native of Baskin, Louisiana, was the perfect duet partner for this lively track.
Gill shared that he invited Wilson to join him on the song after setting the scene in Thibodaux. He was impressed by her performance and loved the sound of their voices together. The EP contains a total of six new songs, including a mix of upbeat tracks and resonant ballads.
Each guitar featured on the covers of the “50 Years From Home” EPs holds a special significance to Gill. The guitar on “Down at the Borderline” is a 1953 Fender Telecaster, purchased in his native Oklahoma in 1978, which has remained his main guitar ever since. Gill expressed his attachment to the instrument, noting that it has been integral to his musical journey.
Gill’s “50 Years From Home” series has been a celebration of his five decades in music, with each EP offering a blend of new compositions and reimagined classics. The project showcases Gill’s enduring talent and commitment to his craft, providing listeners with a glimpse into his musical evolution over the years.
As Gill embarks on his summer tour and prepares for a residency at the historic Ryman Auditorium, his dedication to his artistry continues to shine through. With the release of the “Down At The Borderline” EP and the success of his ongoing series, Gill’s legacy in the country music industry remains strong.
In the ever-changing landscape of music, Vince Gill’s unwavering passion and talent stand as a testament to his enduring influence in the genre.
