Amybeth McNulty: Love, Loss, and Stardom

In the world of Netflix, where binge-watching is a way of life, Amybeth McNulty made a lasting impression as the beloved Vickie Dunne in “Stranger Things.” But for the 24-year-old actress, this role holds a deeper significance beyond the screen. It marked the final audition she shared with her parents before they tragically passed away.

During a heartfelt interview on Ireland’s “The Late Late Show,” McNulty opened up about the bittersweet moment, revealing, “So, my parents passed away. I know, very sad. But it’s okay. [‘Stranger Things’] was the last audition that they knew that I did. So, there was something quite exciting.” Her mother, Siobhan McNulty, lost her battle with cancer in November 2021, followed by her father, Liam McNulty, two years later in December 2023. Despite their absence, both parents had a premonition about the audition, making Vickie Dunne’s role even more special for their daughter.

McNulty’s parents were not only her biggest supporters but also made sacrifices to help her pursue her dreams. They uprooted their lives in Ireland to accompany her to Canada, where she kickstarted her career with breakout roles in “Anne with an E” and later, “Stranger Things.”

In a touching tribute to her mother on social media, McNulty expressed her love and admiration, sharing, “Mum, I love you. I don’t have many words, but I want the world to see how wonderful you were and how proud I am to be your daughter.” A similar sentiment was shared for her father, whom she described as everything a human being could wish to be – kind, generous, and a true friend.

McNulty’s journey through grief, loss, and stardom is a testament to the resilience and strength she embodies. In a world where endings often mark new beginnings, her story is a reminder that love, support, and unwavering belief can pave the way for dreams to come true.
