As the unusually cold weather persists in Florida, Walt Disney World’s water park, Typhoon Lagoon, has announced an extended closure of three more days. The closure comes after a previous shutdown of five days, with plans to reopen on Saturday, Jan. 17. However, the park will remain closed on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday due to the chilly weather in Orlando.
Orlando is currently under a Freeze Warning set to begin on Friday, Jan. 16, at 1 a.m. through 9 a.m., along with a Cold Weather Advisory at the same time. Despite this, the temperature is expected to rise slightly, with a high of around 59 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday and around 71 degrees on Saturday. The forecast for Sunday and beyond predicts high temperatures around 60 degrees and lower.
Though Typhoon Lagoon is still on track to resume normal operations on Wednesday, Jan. 21, there is a possibility of further closures if the cold weather continues. The park’s official website states that visitors can enjoy the park’s amenities on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but this schedule is subject to change.
Scheduled for its annual refurbishment on Feb. 15, Typhoon Lagoon will close while Blizzard Beach, the other water park at Disney World, reopens after completing its own refurbishment. While there is no confirmed date for Typhoon Lagoon’s reopening after refurbishment, it is anticipated to resume operations in May, coinciding with the start of the busy season alongside Blizzard Beach.
As Typhoon Lagoon navigates these closures and refurbishments, visitors can stay updated on park operations through the official Disney Parks website. The park’s closure serves as a reminder of the ever-changing weather patterns in Florida and the need for flexibility in planning park visits.
