Ben Stiller Reflects on Jerry Stiller’s Time on Seinfield

In a recent interview with NPR, Ben Stiller reflected on his late father Jerry Stiller’s time on the iconic show Seinfeld, describing it as “fulfilling” for the veteran actor. Stiller portrayed Frank Costanza, the father of Jason Alexander’s character George, known for his hilariously misplaced temper. The role brought a new level of fame and success to Jerry, as Seinfeld became a cultural phenomenon unlike anything he had experienced before. Initially, the part of Frank was played by John Randolph before Jerry stepped in and made the role his own.

For Ben, who was just starting to experience success in his own acting career at the time, seeing his father thrive on such a popular show was a source of pride. The father-son duo never felt any competition between them, as they both found success in their own respective ways. Jerry’s comedic talents had been honed over decades of performances alongside his wife Anne Meara, from comedy gigs to Broadway shows in the 1960s to 1980s.

Following his time on Seinfeld, Jerry went on to star in King of Queens alongside Kevin James and Leah Remini, where Meara also made appearances. Ben has recently produced a documentary titled ‘Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost’, which delves into the lives and careers of his parents. The documentary, released on Apple TV in October, explores the enduring legacy of the comedic duo.

Seinfeld aired from 1989 to 1998, leaving a lasting impact on popular culture. Jerry’s portrayal of Frank Costanza remains a memorable part of the show’s legacy, showcasing his comedic talents and bringing joy to audiences around the world. As Ben reflects on his parents’ remarkable careers, he pays tribute to their lasting influence on the entertainment industry.
