US Airlines Update Passport Policies to Reflect Biological Sex

US airlines have been instructed to disregard the “X” gender marker on passports, following a new policy by the US Customs and Border Protection.

This directive comes as a result of President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at upholding the biological truth of gender identity.

The introduction of the “X” non-binary marker during Joe Biden’s presidency has been put on hold, affecting individuals applying for new passports.

However, previously issued passports with the “X” marker remain valid unless needing renewal, which now must reflect the holder’s biological sex at birth.

Despite passports with the “X” marker remaining valid, concerns have been raised about potential confusion at check-in desks and border control, especially for international travelers. This change in policy could lead to uncertainty and frustration among individuals affected by this decision.
