Yobe State Police Command recently made an arrest following a disturbing incident where a female medical doctor was physically assaulted by a patient’s relative at the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu.
The suspect, identified as a 40-year-old man named Usman Ahmed, reportedly attacked the healthcare worker with a stick during a disagreement over medical attention. Fortunately, the police swiftly responded to a distress call and apprehended the perpetrator, who is now facing prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the act of violence and emphasised the importance of seeking redress through official channels rather than resorting to physical aggression.
He warned that severe penalties await anyone found guilty of such offences. In light of this incident, the Association of Resident Doctors in Yobe State Specialist Hospital initiated an indefinite strike to demand justice for their colleague and urge the state government to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences.
