Travel Warning: U.S. Cracks Down on Birth Tourism Practices

The U.S. government has recently issued a warning against birth tourism, where foreign nationals visit the country to secure U.S. citizenship for their child born on American soil. This practice is now under scrutiny, with visa denials on the line for those who attempt it.

In an effort to crack down on birth tourism, the U.S. Department of State has instructed consular officers to carefully evaluate visa applications and deny them if there is suspicion of the applicant’s true intent.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasised the importance of abiding by visa regulations and clarified that using a tourist visa to give birth in the United States for the sole purpose of obtaining U.S. citizenship is not permissible.
